The Eduardo Mondlane University was founded on August 21, 1962, under the name of General Studies College of Mozambique. In 1968 the name has been changed in the University of Lourenço Marques (ULM) and in 1976 ULM changed it's name again and became the Eduardo Mondlane University. While still being a young university, the Eduardo Mondlane University is the oldest and for a long time, the only one in Mozambique.
The ETH Zurich and the EPFL, the two Federal Institutes of Technology, are required by law to teach and conduct research in the engineering sciences, the natural sciences, architecture, mathematics and related fields. In these disciplines, they offer courses for Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctor’s degrees. A wide range of advanced training options also provide an opportunity for graduates to attend courses in other disciplines or to pursue postgraduate studies.
The vision of WaterNet is a future in which the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has the institutional and human capacity to educate and train its own water managers, capable to contribute to the equitable sharing and sustainable utilisation of water resources for poverty alleviation, economic development (livelihood security) and environmental security.
We’re well known for our pioneering work to save and protect iconic wildlife like pandas, tigers, whales and rhinos - and we’ve had some great achievements in those areas since we started in 1961. Our ultimate goal has always been “people living in harmony with nature” - so we're about respecting and valuing the natural world and finding ways to share the Earth’s resources fairly.
Since 1957 the Institute has provided graduate education to more than 14,500 water professionals from over 160 countries, the vast majority from the developing world. Numerous research and capacity development projects are carried out throughout the world. The Institute offers a unique combination of applied, scientific and participatory research in water engineering combined with natural sciences and management sciences.
